Opened in September 2019, Poets Mews Care Home is our new, purpose-built residential & dementia care home in Clevedon, North Somerset and will be Avery’s 60th elder care service to open nationally. There is quite a buzz around our new Clevedon care home, new residents are joining us every few days and if you live locally you may have heard of our neighbouring independent living, retirement home The Hawthorns Clevedon which is also situated in Clevedon, overlooking the seafront.
Our residential as well as our dementia care community’s are vibrant, energetic spaces. There is an atmosphere of mutual support that we have worked hard to cultivate since opening in the summer of 2019. Our facilities such as our fully equipped cinema, library and spa tell only half the story. Our care staff are chosen because they understand that everyone has a part to play in getting the atmosphere just right within our Clevedon care home. Our new care home will follow the same successful, community focused formula, one that has seen our sister homes in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare earn a reputation for excellence across the south-west region. We also welcome local schools, clubs and societies into our retirement home; it’s an approach that has put our other care homes firmly at the center of their respective communities and earned Avery four separate national care awards in 2018.

Fine Dining at the Finest of Care Homes in Clevedon!
There is much to enjoy here for both Poets Mews residents and family members alike. We are a vibrant and supportive community, we make friends quickly and our loved ones are always made to feel welcome.
Our dining arrangements ensure that meal-times are both sociable and nourishing. All our seasonal fare is prepared on-site by our chef and his team, who can often be seen ‘following the food’ at mealtimes getting valuable feedback from our residents. Our residents preferences and specific needs are important to the team and they will happily arrange for something different to be served on days when the menu doesn’t meet your tastes or your dietary requirements simply require it.
Of course guests are welcome to join in our activities, our cafe can get quite busy with family and friends coming and going. It tends to be a popular space for our residents too, who enjoy the hum of conversations and the clinking of china tea cups on saucers. Between meals we enjoy plenty of tea and freshly baked cakes and biscuits, and when the weather is fine, we enjoy are large rear garden and potting shed too.

Live a Balanced Life!
We all know what we like and that’s great but at Poets Mews we also like to encourage our residents to try something new. Our well-being programme of activities is designed to keep body and mind in great shape and along the way we have a lot of fun and make new acquaintances. In fact a sense of companionship and support is inevitable when there is so much going on, whether it is a simple board game, a film in our fully equipped cinema or a day trip out in our mini-bus across Somerset or to Bristol. We know that an active home is a supportive home as it helps people to settle in their own time and keep stimulated through the energy of other staff, guests and residents.
Don’t get us wrong, we enjoy a bit peace and quiet too, so you will always find a space where you can enjoy the daily papers or a quiet nap if you so choose. It’s up to you how you spend your day at our Clevedon care home.
Companionship and most of all, fun, is never far from the day to day at our care home. We regularly invite community groups into the home, whether it is local volunteers from around Clevedon, scout groups or local schools and societies. We believe that residents should maintain and develop whatever interests or relationships they have enjoyed within the wider local community. We often find that residents share similar interests and we support those residents in any way we can to enjoy and maintain their hobbies or interests with other like minded people.
Enjoying our garden in the company of other residents is of course a popular a past time but so is maintaining it. We like to keep in garden ‘ship shape and Bristol fashion’ for all to enjoy and our gardening club sees to it that standards never drop!
