Situated in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, Acorn Lodge Care Home is on the Coventry Road, just a few minutes’ bus ride from the town centre. This popular home serves the elderly across the district with a palpable sense of community and compassion.
Home life is totally focused on creating the best possible care and quality of living for our residents so that families can have peace of mind. New arrivals settle in quickly and soon feel a valuable part of the home. A choice of room sizes is available, some with balconies, all with en-suite showers, flat screen TVs and DVD players, and there are some suites available too for couples or friends who like to share. We encourage residents to make their rooms their own by furnishing them with personal memorabilia, favourite pictures or even a beloved bedspread or piece of furniture.
Lounges are inviting spaces to linger in, as are the enclosed courtyard gardens, perfect spots for sitting out on warm sunny days – parasols at the ready, naturally! There are quiet corners too for one-to-one chats.
We are well respected for our dementia care and have a dedicated Memory Care Suite, equipped with its own sweet shop (no pun intended!) and the tills and scales of yesteryear. Those were the days when sweets came from a jar and you gobbled them from a paper bag.
Families are encouraged to be actively involved in decision making in all aspects of home life and are welcome to join the steering committees we have. There are no closed doors and residents are free to come and go as they please.

Never Too Old to Learn…
Our in-house team of Activity Coordinators (the Ladies in Pink) arrange an imaginative programme of events and activities to suit all tastes; there is always something going on every day. Take a look at the list below of some of the things we do and you will get the picture:
• Visit by ZooLab (handling snakes and spiders!)
• Latin American dancing
• Wildlife films
• Visits to garden centres
• Listening to the Orchestra of the Swan
• Trips out with neighbouring homes
• Going on a barge trip
• Our green fingered Gardening club
Schools like to drop in and see us — the little ones always raise a smile, as does the local community theatre group. We’re always open to new suggestions for activities, so the list is always expanding. Residents just have to tell us what they like and we’ll see if we can do it. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the home and we use of the internet and i-pads for our memory activities. YouTube is a good source for past events and trips down Memory Lane which relate to and stimulate the residents. Acorn Lodge Care Home
We are delighted with the level of care afforded by the Acorns team. The carers demonstrate sympathy, empathy, compassion and patience - when Mum calls for assistance, personal support is prompt and nothing is too much trouble. Cleaning and maintenance is to a very high standard throughout the home and grounds - Mum's room is always clean and tidy and her bathroom is spotless. Despite the overall cleanliness, the upper floor areas emanate an odour that is more noticeable during winter months when windows are closed. However, temperature and ventilation for residents is managed according to external weather conditions. Food and drink is excellent - menus are varied, balanced, on-time, well prepared and well presented. Activities: Angela and colleagues are stars who strive to maintain interest and spirits in challenging conditions. Laundry turn-around is regular, prompt and carried out to a high standard. The reception and office team is welcoming, well informed and well presented - always willing to assist. Good leadership and management is evident - all staff are professional, knowledgeable, polite, approachable and available at any time, day or night.
Our wonderful mother spent the last eight months of her life at Acorn Lodge. Our family were relieved that my mother was looked after so well. Everything that she needed was attended to immediately. She had the company of the residents and the staff and they would attend to her needs at any time of the day or night. She also enjoyed the many stimulating activities put on by the home. Most importantly she was happy there. My brother and I were relieved that each time we left her she was happy, safe and cared for. For that peace of mind we are eternally grateful. Colin Bruce
It was the worst feeling ever moving our Uncle into a home. That feeling lasted 1 night. The carers were amazing and so thoughtful not only to our Uncle but to us. The care was outstanding. The food was top class. The activities involved everyone, even though our Uncle was blind and unsteady on his feet the carers made sure he joined in. The only time I cried was having to move him out to hospital. We can never thank the staff enough for giving our Uncle such a fantastic quality of life for his last few months.
Very polite and professional staff, all areas spotlessly clean. Very welcoming reception area, cannot fault it and would recommend it to anybody looking into full time care for a friend or relative.
Cream Teas All Round!
Residents like to go out to tea, but they’re treated at home too, as home-made cakes and pastries are baked daily. Very nice to have them out in the garden, or when a guest drops in to our Tea Rooms. For those who enjoy a tipple, there are aperitifs before meals and a glass of wine is always an option. It’s also possible to order food throughout the day from the kitchen.
We have three wholesome meals a day, all carefully thought out and nutritionally balanced, using fresh produce and cooked on the premises, and all diets can be catered for. The seasonal menu varies regularly, so there is always something different on offer, and Chef regularly creates themed culinary days. Our “follow the food” policy means that Chef is happy to chat to residents about the menus and find out what they really like — and what they don’t!
We have large communal dining rooms, the one on the ground floor opening out onto the courtyard – lovely in summer. Meal times are when we all come together and there is a convivial atmosphere and plenty of chatter. Families often join us for meals and special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries. Come and join us and even try a cream tea!
