Cherries with Sherrie at Acorn Lodge!

Acorn Lodge Care Home in Nuneaton recently invited Avery Ambassador, stage and TV actress Sherrie Hewson, to visit us and reveal the names of our suites and plant a cherry tree!

The event was themed around cherry trees, so to prepare for her visit, we decorated the home with pink and red balloons, with table decorations of rose petals and cherry blossom crystals. Colourful flower bouquets were placed all around the home and we also had pink table clothes decorated with extravagant pink balloon displays.

Upon Sherrie’s arrival, we offered her a glass of sherry or a mocktail prepared by our culinary team (she enjoyed some of both!) and we had cherry flavoured cakes and scones, as well as pink cupcakes for all our residents and guests to eat throughout the day.

Sherrie got involved with our residents gardening club, planting an array of flowers and herbs in pink tubs that will be used to beautifully decorate our gardens. She commented on how wonderful our gardens looked and were especially impressed with our runner beans and how they were presented; the residents took pride in telling Sherrie all about the different plants and herbs that they had been growing.

Sherrie and one of our resident’s daughters then presented one of our carers, Jane Doherty, with a gift for her outstanding level of kindness. Jane recently encouraged one of our residents, Christine, to resume her hobby of knitting, as she had knitted all of her life; however, soon after moving into Acorn Lodge after having a stroke, Christine felt as though she was unable to knit anymore as her hands were no longer as able. But now she has a huge collection of knitted toys and teddies in her room, and our other residents like to pop in and admire her work.

We asked Sherrie to plant her very own cherry tree outside the front of our home with help from some of our residents; she willingly obliged and enjoyed planting the tree for everyone.

Sherrie then revealed the names of our suites, which are Cherry Tree and Willow Way. At the end of her visit, she gave a lovely speech about how honoured she is to be Avery’s Ambassador and praised our staff very highly and said what a wonderful job everyone does.

We would like to thank everyone who came along to our event and made it such a fabulous day, and we would love to invite Sherrie back to Acorn Lodge again in the future. A big thank you to photographer Mike Lenagh for taking so many great photos.
