Nursing care in a care home involves supporting elderly residents with complex health needs that cannot be provided at home. People who require this level of support need a combination of both social care (for example support to eat, drink, wash and dress, and being able to maintain an active social life) and health support, such as support with complex dressings. Nursing in a care home is overseen by a registered nurse.
At Avery Healthcare, we provide qualified nursing care on site in a number of our countrywide homes, delivered in a person-centred and compassionate way. Offering the highest quality of care, our residents are encouraged to live as independently as possible, within a caring and supportive environment. Our registered nurses are present 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are supported by teams of highly-trained staff.
Our healthcare professionals include Advanced Senior Carers who work closely with registered nurses to meet the healthcare needs of our residents. As a reputable nursing care home provider, we believe our role is to prevent hospital admissions, support peoples’ health and wellbeing where higher-level care is required, and to assist with early discharges from hospital for recuperation in less-acute settings that are more homely and comfortable.
Nursing home care involves the provision of person-centred support, managing longer-term medical conditions with reablement to return home where possible. Our registered nurses manage complex medical programmes where continual assessment and monitoring is required, such as wound care, complex catheter care and/or nutritional support through a PEG. Professional staff responsible for providing nursing care services have access to any resources they may need, including specialist equipment to enable mobility around the home (for example, stand aids, hoists, profile beds and specialist chairs).
Moving into a care home is a big decision, and a service that provides nursing care is no different – other than that the level of support is more complex. We work with each resident and family to ensure that this transition is as smooth and easy as possible.
As part of our nursing care services, each of our residents has a personalised care plan that is drawn up with the individual and their family, where they wish to be involved. Care plans are kept under continual review to ensure that the nursing support remains appropriate for that person. During this process, and through supporting residents on a daily basis, our nurses build strong relationships with those they care for by taking a holistic approach when assessing the physical, psychological and social needs of the individual. By getting to know what each person likes and dislikes, and what they are able to do for themselves and what they need support with, our nurses are able to successfully support residents to settle into the home quickly. We can then ensure that they enjoy a fulfilling life as independently as possible.
