Rivermere Care Home Fundraise Money for Local Hospice

Everyone at Rivermere Care Home is part of a close community, where we encourage each other and are part of a team, especially when it comes to supporting great causes. So we are very proud to have donated a fabulous £766 for the local Hospice in the Weald charity.

When Christine Garnaud, a resident here at our home, sadly passed away last year following palliative and end of life care, her family were very impressed with the care and passion that had been shown to Christine. Very generously, her family sent a large hamper at Christmas to the Rivermere staff in recognition of their dedication.

We were surprised and delighted to receive such a gift and thought we would do something just as meaningful with it. With the family’s agreement, it was decided to raffle the hamper, with proceeds donated to the Hospice in the Weald Charity, who had assisted our home with Christine’s end of life care. On the day of the big auction, residents, family and friends all came together and the hamper was auction off for an amazing £383. Avery Healthcare, who operates our home, was so proud of Riveremere’s staff’s achievements and dedication, kindly doubled that to £766!

Here’s our team photo with the grand total raised! Thank you to everyone for their support.

Sarah Raine, Head of Fundraising at Hospice in the Weald, commented:

We would like to thank the staff, residents and friends at Rivermere Care Home for kindly raising £766 for us, in memory of Christine Garnaud. Hospice in the Weald strives to ensure that the community we serve has access to compassionate, individualised, holistic and supportive care for all patients with terminal illness, their families and carers. Working alongside staff at Rivermere to support one of the residents was a privilege. We rely on the community to help us to raise the £7m we need to run Hospice in the Weald each year and we are very careful with the money that is raised, with 90p in every £1 going directly to patient care. Thank you so much, your donation will help to make a real difference to patients, their families and carers.”
