Helen Abbott Shines at The Great London Care Awards

Birchwood Grange Care Home in Harrow is always full of fun, laughter and fantastic activities each day thanks to our dedicated team of staff. One particular individual, Helen Abbott, our talented and enthusiastic Well-being and Activities Co-ordinator, shone at the recent finals of the Great London Care Awards, stepping up to receive the 2017 Care Home Activity Organiser Award to thunderous applause.

The Great London Care Awards are part of the Great British Care Awards, a series of nine regional ceremonies that acknowledge and celebrate excellence across the care sector. The awards promote best practice within both home care and care homes and to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding contribution.

Three hundred of the very best employees in social care attended a glittering awards ceremony at The Hilton Bankside in November for the finals of the Great London Care Awards, Helen among them. Out of a strong category of five people, Helen was selected as the winner for her continuous hard work and dedication to her role.

The judges listened to Helen’s remarkable commitment at our home; they were inspired and comments included, “Helen’s passion is evident and her story is inspirational. As a former relative of a resident, now activity organiser, Helen’s unique experience has led her to transform daily life in the home. She has adopted a holistic approach to activity planning that brings in every member of staff to give each resident a bright and engaging day.” The judges also recognised as part of their selection criteria that Helen had created strong community links and offers a wide selection of activities for such a large home with such a diverse community of residents.

Mark Bird, Home Manager, proudly said, “Helen joined the Birchwood team and has transformed the lives of so many residents with her commitment, warm smile and sensitive approach. She is one in a million and truly deserves this award”.

Well done Helen! We are all incredibly proud of you and the recognition of all your hard work with this award. Thank you for making our home so warm, welcome and fun too!
