Birchwood Grange Celebrates ‘Outstanding’ Care Accolade
Birchwood Grange Care Home in Kenton, Harrow is delighted to have received an overall rating of ‘Good’ from the care industries regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The recent unannounced inspection marked the home as ‘Outstanding’ in the category for Care, and Good in the remaining four categories for Safety, Effectiveness, Responsiveness and Leadership.
Birchwood Manager Mark Bird was delighted and generous in his praise for his team: “They have turned the home around in the two years since the home was acquired by Avery Healthcare and have shown dedication and great care. To have achieved this level of performance in such a large home is fantastic, and I am not aware of any such home of our size of 150 beds achieving an Outstanding rating in any category, so I am really proud of our achievement and I can’t thank my wonderful staff enough”.
Lisa Soper, Regional Manager at Avery Healthcare added: “Mark is an inspirational leader; he has injected energy, commitment and no shortage of imagination into the running of this home. You won’t find Mark sat behind a desk. He is out on the floor, doing what he does best, being with people, and caring for them.”
The home has developed some notable local partnerships as part of the improvements, such as an impressive pilot project with Northwick Park Hospital’s Rapid Response Team on falls prevention, and work on terminal care with St Luke’s Hospice. The CQC report quoted one local care professional, “The home has been turned around from a home no-one wanted to go to, to one where there is a waiting list for residents”.
