Our care homes produce some excellent monthly newsletters, updating everyone with recent events and upcoming projects. They also include some incredible stories from their residents. So it was no surprise that when we spotted this fantastic article on resident spoon-player Vincent Shayler in Bourn View Care Home’s October newsletter, we had to share it with…Read More
Bourn View Care Home Bournville
A Community of Care in Bournville Village Birmingham
Our New Bournville Care Home
• Manager: Lianne Sturmey
• Telephone: 0121 516 3500
• Features: Part of the new Bournville Gardens extra-care development, cinema, lovely aspect, brand new purpose-built building & stunning outdoor terraces and large enclosed gardens.
Bourn View Care Home, situated in the Bournville district of Birmingham in the West Midlands opened in June 2017 and is one of the latest additions to Avery Healthcare’s portfolio of care homes. Avery is proud to be part of the Bournville Village Trust’s new development of community care for the elderly, and to be putting the high-quality Avery stamp on this home. We are now developing and implementing our Wellbeing programmes which will lead to all under our wing pursuing active and fulfilled lives in a luxury setting.
The home itself enjoys an elevated position overlooking a waterfall and stream and the Bournville Village. The sleek design of the building, with its stunning central curved roof, is quite distinctive, and the incorporation of floor-to-ceiling windows, together with doors that open out to the grounds make it light and sunny and very connected with the landscape.
An atrium is the focal point of each floor. Here there is a bistro cum café and a bar where residents, friends and families are encouraged to gather. There are four dining rooms and four intimate lounges, all furnished in a contemporary style with splashes of bold colour. The dining rooms lead out on to terraces, ideal spots for a relaxing aperitif before dinner or watching the world go by.
There is a separate memory care floor and a safe, enclosed rear garden. The gardens feature a gazebo, raised beds and potting shed –might there be cucumber sandwiches for tea and fresh mint with the potatoes then?
Each spacious bedroom comes fully furnished, has a TV and telephone point, heating controls and an en-suite wet room. Many of the ground floor rooms enjoy the extra benefit of opening out on to the gardens. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own mementoes and treasures as we fully recognise that being surrounded by familiar things can ease the transition from home to a home.
If you would like to see Bourn View for yourself, please contact our customer service manager Alex Whetton on 0121 516 3500 and he will be only too pleased to arrange a visit for you. For peek behind the scenes and to see what we get up to, visit our dedicated Facebook page which is updated regularly.
Directions – Bourn View Care home is set back from the main A38 Bristol Road South opposite Bournville Police Station and on the same site as Bournville Gardens Retirement Village.
From Growing Daisies to ‘Driving Miss Daisy’
Encouraged by our Well-being coordinators, our residents like to play a full part in the life of Bourn View. They proved keen to enter the Avery in Bloom competition this year, had a trip out to the garden centre to buy plants and have high hopes that their green fingered expertise will meet with recognition. Driving Miss Daisy has been a favourite of the cinema showings, along with Mamma Mia and Grease. Any dancing in the aisles, then?
If the cinema seats prove too comfy, residents can show their moves in the daily Morning Moves keep fit sessions and I’m sure that the reminiscences sessions with vinyls on the record player, get them swaying along. And there’s nothing like a bit of Wimbledon, to dig out those racket skills.
We have our own minibus to take residents out on trips far and wide. The world does not necessarily get smaller with age! Just think of somewhere you’d like to visit, and off we go.
Pimms and Strawberries
The traditional Wimbledon accompaniment may have been a bit of a treat, but you can be sure that all our meals, which are cooked on the premises, are of high standard and as delicious as they are nutritious. The chef liaises with the local greengrocer and butcher to make sure that all ingredients are top-quality, fresh and seasonal.
Mealtimes are focal points of the day and we recognise the importance of making them well worth the wait and to be convivial occasions. We can cater for any special diets, and have ways of coaxing poor appetites along. Needless to say, we mark birthdays and anniversaries in time-honoured fashion and will be only too please if friends and families come along and join us.
