Hanford Court rated ‘Outstanding’ in caring in recent CQC inspection

Hanford Court Care Home in Stoke-on-Trent is off to a great start in 2020! The home’s staff and residents are celebrating after having received a Good Overall with an Outstanding in Caring rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after inspectors completed an unannounced visit in late 2019.

The CQC spent two days at Hanford Court and spoke to our staff, residents and visiting professionals. There were so many amazing quotes in our report, such as:

People felt safe and were protected from the risk of abuse. One person told the CQC, “I do feel I am quite safe being here, not had any worries about that in five years since been here. Always lots of staff around to come to me if I want anything, which is reassuring.” The CQC recognised that our residents are actively involved in staff recruitment. One resident spoke to the CQC and said, “If they need to recruit staff one of us helps with the process. I helped with a chef appointment. We interviewed three and made each one prepare a meal.”

Staff told the CQC they had an induction into their role and regular updates to their training. Staff were complimentary about the training and said they thought it was good. One staff member said, “You can’t fault the training here they stay on top of it all the time there is always something to learn and it’s good.”

Other staff spoke about the friendly environment. “I love the feeling when I walk through the door and people’s faces light up when they see me.” The CQC noted that residents and relatives confirmed this. One resident said, “I like to have a natter and they know this. All of them here are so nice, not one but all of them.” A relative told us, “All of the staff here are excellent, very caring toward [person’s name] they do make time to have a chat with everyone too.”

Relatives told the CQC, “This home is excellent I cannot praise it highly enough. It is the individual attention given to people’s care which stands out for me.” and, “Staff here are excellent, very caring toward my relative. They make time to have a chat with her.”

Home Manager, Gemma Boot, is thrilled with the result. She said “I am absolutely delighted that we have retained the Good Overall rating from CQC. We are so proud to have been judged as Outstanding in Caring, as this is the area that means the most to our residents. It is fantastic that CQC has recognised how wonderfully caring our team is and I am so proud of everyone at Hanford Court.”
