Birchmere Mews Care Home glows in CQC Inspection

“There’s always someone around that makes me feel safe.”

“I like the food very much, I always get lots of choices.”

“I know my relative is safe here, there’s always enough staff around and the place is secure.”

Birchmere Mews Care Home in Solihull is absolutely thrilled with our latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, which included many positive comments – just a few being listed above!

We recently had an unannounced inspection by the CQC and they have rated us as Good In All Categories. This is our first inspection since we opened in March 2018 and we are incredibly proud for achieving this result!

The Care Quality Commission inspects the services delivered in care homes in five categories: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. Each category is then graded based on their findings as either Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement and Inadequate, with an overall rating given.

Some residents spoke to the CQC and told them “There’s always staff around, I can get them if I need them.”, “Quite safe here, never felt frightened, the carers are first class.” And “The staff are very respectful, they treat my relative in such a way that they feel like it’s their home and they (staff) are visitors.”

When speaking about staff availability, one relative told the CQC: “The times that I visit can vary, staff are always with the residents chatting, there’s always something going on and always enough staff around.”

People and relatives knew how to raise concerns if they needed to and felt confident to raise these with staff. One resident told the CQC “I’ve never complained about anything major. I would speak to a carer first, they are very approachable.”

Charley Simcox, our Home Manager, commented: “I am absolutely delighted with Birchmere Mews’ first-ever CQC inspection report. I am extremely proud of the whole team here; this rating was achieved through everyone’s hard work and commitment. Well done to you all.”
