Merlin Court Care Home is a residential and dementia care home situated in Marlborough, just a five-minute walk from the centre of one of Wiltshire’s most historic market towns. It adjoins Marlborough Common and is only a two-minute drive from the A346 Swindon Road.
Many of the staff at our home have been loyal employees for quite a few years now, and this is reflected in the consistency of residential and dementia care offered. Our motivation is our residents’ well-being, celebrating their lives and enabling them to live life to the full.
Our retirement home is truly splendid and was recently refurbished, enjoys a quiet location next to Marlborough Common and is surrounded by a lovely landscaped garden. The entrance opens onto a spacious galleried reception and café area which is very swish and our latest addition, the cinema is a popular attraction.
All our spacious bedrooms have en-suite walk-in shower rooms, wall-mounted TVs and plenty of room for photos and mementos, even small items of furniture, or a favourite bedspread perhaps.
Our team of dedicated carers and support staff work hard to ensure that everyone settles quickly into home life and keeps their brains and their bodies active. Our retirement home is supported by an array of local groups, including students from the nearby Marlborough College, who enjoy a weekly visit. There’s nothing like mixing up the generations to provoke conversation!
To see what we get up to you might want to view our dedicated Facebook page that is kept up to date with all the activities and goings on in the home, or call our manager Michael Berkley-Blezard on 01672 512454. He will be happy to answer your questions or arrange for you to visit our lovely Marlborough care home.
Our residential home has established strong ties with local Wiltshire schools and associations who play a valuable role in ensuring residents remain part of the wider community. Students and nursery children come every week to read and play board games with the residents.
Activities are scheduled every day of the week by a team of dedicated Activity Co-ordinators who arrange for entertainers and local charities to come in. You can choose to do as much or as little as you like, and if there is something that particularly interests you we will do our best to support it. Whether it’s music, crafting, dancing, walking or just trips to a local Marlborough pub, there isn’t much we don’t do! See for yourself:
Cookery and Art courses
Reading and Scrabble games
Keep Fit
Swimming for slimming
Maths tests (What!)
Playing boules
Holy Communion every Sunday
Songs of Praise services for all denominations
We have a dedicated dementia Lounge where reminiscence sessions are popular, as are the singalongs and shared moments of reflection. We are no strangers to the internet and use it as memory resource, and also for Skyping, which along with our Facebook pages are excellent means for keeping lines of communication going. Wi-Fi is available throughout the home and free for residents and guests alike. When not on our screens, or engaged in activities inside or in the garden, we can found going out on trips to the lovely Wiltshire countryside in our minibus.
Merlin Court chefs ensure that everyone receives the very best nutritionally balanced meals, using fresh ingredients, locally sourced from Wiltshire suppliers where possible and following the seasons. Health considerations and dietary needs are taken into account, of course. We recognise that good hydration is an essential to well-being and encourage good water drinking habits, but residents are free to enjoy an aperitif and a glass of wine or beer with their meals as well.
Dining is an important social event in the life of the home and often eagerly anticipated, though it is always possible to eat in one’s own room if preferred, and we can always rustle up a quick snack if asked. At coffee and tea time, you’ll find residents enjoying the delicious home-made cakes and pastries that are baked every day; healthy drinks and fresh fruit are available too. Birthdays and anniversaries are honoured with a special cake and are occasions when we particularly welcome friends and family to join us. Come and see for yourself!
Merlin Court Care Home, Marlborough were delighted to welcome Avery Ambassador Sherrie Hewson to our spectacular Champagne and Canapés Open Day. Our event was themed around British culture, so to prepare we decorated the home with a balloon arch of red, white and blue balloons and Union Jack flags. Red, white and blue table centrepieces…
We are proud to announce that our CQC inspection report is now live! We have received ‘Good’ in all categories, with some fantastic comments. Previously Merlin Court had received an overall ‘Requires Improvement’ from CQC, with one category being classified as ‘Inadequate’.
