June Churm becomes Local Radio Star!

May 4th saw the official announcement of Prince Philip stepping down from his official duties and local radio station, BBC Derby were hot on the heels of the story, looking for inspirational 95 year old men or women who might have some good advice for the Royal.

Our talented June Churm, a passionate artist from Derby Heights Care Home, had been keeping very quiet about her amazing experiences during World War II.  However, after receiving a call from the local BBC radio station, June revealed that she had more connections with the Prince than just sharing the same birth year.

It was to everyone’s surprise and delight that in 2009, along with other lady veterans, June was awarded the Land Army Badge for her dedicated war time service and it was actually Prince Philip who made the award.

After a few giggles and a good chat with the BBC reporter, June offered the Duke some well sort advice, “Enjoy life” she said and “don’t get up too early!”.
