Derby Heights glows with a Good in All Categories

Following the fantastic hard work and dedication from our team, we are proud to announce that Derby Heights Care Home in Littleover has been awarded ‘Good in All Categories’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) at a recent unannounced inspection!

The CQC are an independent organisation that grades the services delivered in care homes. There are five categories (Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led) are graded, and the CQC have declared that Derby Heights and its staff scored consistently high throughout, ranking ‘Good’ in all five categories. Here are some of the highlights from our report:

One resident said, “I am extremely happy here. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff”. Another resident commented that “This home looks like a five-star hotel and the care is five stars too”.

All the residents that CQC spoke with said the staff were caring and kind, with comments like “Staff take an interest in me and they know me. They treat me well” and “The staff are gentle and careful”. The CQC summarised that “People and relatives said that staff knew how to do their jobs, spoke respectfully to them, and that it was hard to find any fault with them or their care”.

CQC also take the time to ask our staff about their work. Our staff were very positive about their experiences, saying “We are constantly being educated about good practice” and “We have time within our working day to sit with the residents and chat to them”. The residents, relatives and staff the CQC spoke with “said they went out of their way to provide high-quality care”.

Visiting relatives also told CQC, “People are very easy to talk to here. I would recommend this place”. Another relative said, “Staff are patient with residents. They try to make people relax… They listen carefully”. Other comments from relatives included in the report were, “Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I am very impressed with the place” and “I come daily and am free to come anytime. I’ve come at night as well. The staff are brilliant with me”.

The CQC concluded that “The service had a welcoming and homely atmosphere,” and that “The staff respected and promoted people’s privacy and dignity.”

Lance Bosmans, Home Manager at Derby Heights, was delighted. Lance, pictured here with his team, commented “We have a philosophy and commitment to promoting independence and choice for our residents, supported by the highest quality care here at Derby Heights. It is a home-from-home with a difference that offers friendship, engaging activities and a stimulating lifestyle. We take into consideration the needs of every individual. This result is a fantastic reflection of everyone’s hard work.”

Well done and thank you for everyone’s contribution to this great result! We are very proud of this achievement (our first ever CQC inspection since we opened) and could not do it without your continued support.
