RBL Cookbook Winner: ‘Ray’ of Sunshine’s Foodie Favourites

In honour of the Royal British Legion’s centenary this year, and in line with the release of their veteran cookbook – ‘Cooking with Heroes: The Royal British Legion Centenary Cookbook’, Avery held a competition whereby residents were invited to share their favourite childhood food memories. Resident Mary Rose Downie, or better known as Ray as her mother would always refer to her as her ‘Ray of Sunshine’, at Derby Heights Care Home, was a recipient of one of the prized cookbooks.

Due to her deteriorating eyesight, Ray’s daughter helped with her submission, asking her about her favourite food memories as a child, including schools dinners and desserts.
