Overlooking the Stewart and Lloyds Bowling Club on Occupation Road in Corby, Seagrave House Care Home is a very sociable place, buzzing with chatter and companionship. We have three floors of en-suite bedrooms in a variety of sizes and on the top floor, private residential suites which come with kitchenettes. One floor is dedicated to dementia care, where we have initiated progressive and innovative therapies that encompass residents’ life stories and involve friends and relatives as much as possible.
We enjoy a large, enclosed rear garden as well as a fine view on to the bowling club. Residents can just watch – no charge! – or even join in themselves. Inside, the lounges are beautifully furnished and spacious and invite making new friends and joining in with the activities. As our sister home Glenmoor is only a few steps away, there is double the opportunity of being sociable and going out on joint trips. On the other hand there are plenty of quiet places too, where you can have a cosy chat with family members or concentrate on a book, newspaper or jigsaw puzzle. We like to feel that Seagrave is a home from home, not an institution.
To see what we get up to you might want to view our dedicated Facebook that is kept updated with all the activities and goings on in the home, or call our friendly manager Rosanna Gosling on 01536 270400 if you have any other queries or would like to arrange a tour with our front of house team.
Some of our residents may have read The Hungry Caterpillar book with their grandchildren, but here at Seagrave, we watched our very own caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies. We had special holding nets for them and it was exciting day when we let them fly free. Check out our Facebook page to see. This was just one of the many activities in the varied programme that our Activity Coordinators devise for the residents, who are never too old to learn something new. As well as watching caterpillars turn into butterflies we have activities with more immediate results – plenty of art classes, chair exercises to keep the body trim and numerous outings to stimulate the mind. We like to have a rounded programme.
As our home overlooks the Bowls Club, we are ideally located for anyone who wants to touch up their game or learn how to bowl. We have built up strong ties with local sports clubs and other members of the local community and often enjoy the company of local schools, experts who give us talks and performers who come to entertain us – rock and roll anyone? Or the bagpipes perhaps? Our Facebook pages will keep you up to date.
We might not have Dave and Si, the Hairy Bikers, at our disposal, but our chefs Dave and Andy give them a good run for their money. They recognise that the palate changes as people get older, get ill or lose their sight and aim to make the dishes they serve up as nutritious and colourful as possible. Although they will do hot dogs and burgers for a Rock ’n’ Roll night, and our residents will make peppermint creams for a special occasion, they fully realise the virtues of good, healthy, fresh food.
They have excellent relations with local butchers and suppliers, ensuring that all our food is fresh, locally sourced and, when possible, seasonal and are happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements.
Freshly baked savoury and sweet snacks are available all day as well as fruit. Dining is a happy, social event and an important focus of daily life and comes with a glass of wine and an aperitif. Guests are always welcome to join us in swapping stories of the day. Come and see for yourself!
On the morning of Friday 19th October, Seagrave House Care Home welcomed Avery Ambassador Sherrie Hewson to the official opening of our new coffee lounge. We decorated the home with lilac and silver balloons and a big ribbon for Sherrie to cut for the official opening. There was a wonderful platter of sweet treats, including…
