Sunny Brings Treats and A Smile To All At Avon Valley

Residents at Avon Valley Care Home in Bristol recently received some wonderful surprise gifts from 10-year-old Sunny, who wanted to cheer them up during the current lockdown.

Sunny, a pupil at Kings Oak School, which sits just opposite Avon Valley, has been busy making cookies, personalised cards and gifts for the residents. She wanted to make them smile and feel special during this time that they can’t all be together.

Sunny was previously inspired to bring gifts to residents when she heard them singing outside the home during the first lockdown in the spring of last year. She enjoyed hearing their voices and looked forward to seeing them as she walked to and from school.

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, Sunny, who lives close by, decided she wanted to do something special. With her mum’s assistance, she called the home and asked how many residents lived there and how many men and women there were. She then personalised Mother’s Day cards for every resident, including the men, who received a Happy Sunday card, with each including Sunny’s handprint.

The residents were delighted with their gifts and loved watching Sunny drop off goodies at the doorstep from the balcony. Alyson Day, Avon Valley Home Manager, says, “It’s been wonderful to see how happy Sunny has made our residents. It is such a lovely gesture, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Sunny has also been filmed and interviewed by BBC Breakfast about her kind gifts and donations to the home. It is due to air tomorrow morning, Saturday 13th March, so keep an eye out!
