Newcross achieves a Good In All Categories CQC result!

The staff and residents at Newcross Care Home in Wolverhampton are pleased to announce that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has recently awarded the home with a Good In All Categories rating after a recent unannounced 2-day inspection.

The CQC spent two days at the home, and looked at the five key components in the delivery of services: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. Each category is then graded based on its findings, with an overall rating given. Newcross is delighted to have achieved a rating of Good in all five of the categories.

Whilst the CQC inspectors were at Newcross, they spoke to staff, residents and relatives about their experience at the home and detailed the responses in their report. Some quotes in the report from residents at the home include: “I feel safe here, they [staff] are always around if we need someone.”, “If what we want is not on the menu, we say have you got…? they [staff] will usually get it.” And “The carers are very kind, they will do anything for you.”. One resident told the CQC “A lot of laughter goes on here.”.

Our staff told the CQC about the training they have received and why they love their jobs: “We’ve had safeguarding training…I’ve never needed to raise concerns.” And “I always make time to speak with people, it makes their day if you take the time. I like to chat about their hobbies and interests.”

The CQC had also spoken to staff about what good person-centred care looked like. One staff member told the inspectors that they had seen pictures of one of our residents who had been a singer in the war and she had always worn makeup, but when she came to the home, she didn’t have any makeup. The staff went and bought the resident makeup and she loved it! “We put her lippy on and her family said thanks. It really is the little things that mean a lot.” The practice of applying make-up became part of this resident’s care plan.
