Head Chefs Recognised for Excellence in Vegetarian Care Catering

Avery Healthcare is delighted to have three chefs nominated in the 2019 Awards for Excellence in Vegetarian Care Catering.

The finals, launched in 2016 and managed by Vegetarian for Life (VfL), an organisation which promotes that no-one should be forced to give up on their dietary preferences (or needs) just because they are older or go in to care, are being held in London on 17th October.

The Finalists

  • Phil Meyer, Pemberley House Care Home – Finalist in two categories; Most Innovative Veggie Dish and Veggie Care Chef of the Year.
  • Champa Mistry, Birchwood Grange Care Home – Finalist in the category of Veggie Care Chef of the Year.
  • Juan Lopez, Birchwood Grange Care Home Special Recognition Award, for a chef that strives to make the UK a better place for older vegans and vegetarians.

Led by Group Culinary Manager, Simon Lawrence, Avery chefs provide a first-class vegetarian and vegan menu at all homes, with some homes even having dedicated vegetarian kitchens due to resident demand.

Simon said of his team; “Through working with our award-winning chefs and with the support of an experienced dietician, Avery care homes have fabulous vegetarian and vegan choices available on a daily basis. We want to ensure that residents can still enjoy a variety of appetising nutritional dishes on a daily basis. We are extremely proud to have chefs nominated in three categories for Vegetarian for Life 2019 Awards for Excellence.”
