Disability Bowls England

As proud sponsors of the successful Disability Bowls England team, Avery Healthcare’s residents are invited to attend many of the monthly events and sessions held across the nation.

On 10th November, residents of Rivermere Care Home in Sevenoaks, joined by volunteers of the charity, participated in the Kent taster session at the Bromley Indoor Bowls Club. Residents enjoyed a fantastic day where they were shown all the techniques and learnt all about the sport from members of the Paralympic Bronze medallist team. For some, it was a new sport they wanted to try their hand at, and for others, it was an opportunity to show off their skills.

Speaking of the day, Well-being and Activities Co-ordinator Nina Innes said, “It was a brilliant day out for our residents who participated. One of which made full use of the support aids provided by DBE, which helped to ensure the game was adapted to accommodate those who were seated.”

One resident, who had previously played for the best part of 20 years, was thrilled to reconnect with the sport again and impressed the club’s members, who wanted him to stay on and play with them in the afternoon.
