On 6th November, residents Albert and Imelda marked an incredible milestone, their 70th wedding anniversary, with a heartfelt vow renewal ceremony at Droitwich Mews.
The day began with a moving Mass and renewal of vows, followed by a wedding breakfast and a beautiful cake prepared by the talented chef team. Guests were treated to live piano music from Rob from Piano Hedgehog, creating a joyful and elegant atmosphere throughout the celebration.
Father George, who led the Mass from The Church of the Sacred Heart and Saint Catherine of Alexandria, described the occasion as “such an honour to be asked to hold a celebration for such a wonderful couple.”
Floral arrangements from Droitwich Florist added a special touch to the occasion, and Home Manager, Hannah Atkinson, delivered a touching speech honouring Albert and Imelda’s remarkable journey together and the two years they have spent at Droitwich Mews. The couple looked radiant in their finest attire, surrounded by family, friends, and fellow residents.
Imelda and Albert met in 1950, when Imelda worked at a newsagent’s in Solihull. Albert lived nearby and purchased papers and tobacco from this shop. They got married five years later and raised three children with their chicken, geese and pony.
Reflecting on the day, Albert shared, “We still love each other very much – I asked her to marry me again, all we need is love, we’ve always had love.” Imelda added with a smile, “I really didn’t think we’d get this far. What a journey we’ve had, my love.”
