RBL Cookbook Winner: “Lobby, more Lobby!”
In honour of the Royal British Legion’s centenary this year, and in line with the release of their veteran cookbook – ‘Cooking with Heroes: The Royal British Legion Centenary Cookbook’, Avery held a competition whereby residents were invited to share their favourite childhood food memories. Resident Vera at Rowan Court Care Home in Newcastle-under-Lyme was a recipient of one of the prized cookbooks, and here is her story:
When asked what her favourite childhood meal was growing up Vera replied, “It has to be Lobby. I remember my mother always asking for Lobby, more Lobby!”
Lobby is local dish severed in Stoke-on-Trent, which is a stew-like meal consisting of any vegetables and meat that is available. Vera still very much enjoys the dish today, particularly during the cold winter months, served with fresh crusty bread. The chefs at Rowan Court regularly prepare the meal, as they have many residents from the Stoke-on-Trent region residing at the home.
