In a delightful collaboration with the community, three students from St George’s Church of England Primary School have named three suites at the new state-of-the-art care home, Springwood Corner, in Gravesend.
As Springwood Corner Care Home, part of the Avery Healthcare Group, prepares to welcome its first residents this summer, the involvement of local children has added a personal and meaningful touch to the home’s new beginning.
Dan Bridges, Regional Commissioning Director at Avery Healthcare, invited students to participate in a competition to name the three new suites at the home. The students eagerly came up with creative names: “Ascot,” honouring the local former pub, the Ascot Arms; “Thames,” inspired by the nearby River Thames; and “Arnold,” commemorating English poet and journalist Edwin Arnold, who was born in Gravesend.
To thank the students for their creativity and contribution, they received a book voucher and a special cinema experience with a friend in Springwood Corners’ home cinema.
Dan stated, “We wanted the children of St George’s C of E Primary School to name our floors because we love involving our local community. As our close neighbours, this is a wonderful way to build a positive relationship between the young and older generations.”
“The names Ascot, Thames, and Arnold will forever carry the joy, imagination, and spirit of collaboration that brought them to life.”
Dan added, “It was lovely to meet the children and see their excitement about naming our suites. St George’s C of E Primary School will play a big role at Springwood Corner Care Home, and it will be heartwarming to talk to future residents about the children’s involvement.”
Mrs Helen Taylor, Head Teacher at St George’s C of E Primary School, said, “We were delighted to work with Springwood Corner in the naming of their three floors. It’s wonderful to think that our children will be part of the home’s history. We look forward to working closely with Springwood Corner in the future and already have plans to provide artwork for the home and to sing for the residents!”
Fearne, Year 6, said, “I feel very proud that my name was chosen for the new home, and I hope that it will make the people who live there very happy. I am very excited to see the new home and I can’t wait for my cinema experience.”
