Highcliffe Care Home has marked a significant milestone, having officially reopened its doors on Wednesday, 25th February, following last year’s unexpected incident in which a vehicle collided with the building.
The collision, which occurred on 9th July 2025, prompted an immediate evacuation and an extraordinary overnight effort from team members, emergency services, neighbouring care homes and the wider community.
To honour the resilience shown throughout this challenging period, Highcliffe hosted a special relaunch event that brought together residents, families, colleagues, emergency services, contractors and community partners who played a vital role in supporting the home. The afternoon was filled with reconnection, gratitude and a shared sense of pride in how far the community has come since the incident.
Avery Healthcare CEO, Jeremy Richardson, and COO, Lorraine McGarry‑Wall, led a ribbon‑cutting ceremony to officially mark the reopening. A commemorative tree was also planted in the home’s grounds, a symbol of growth and new beginnings. Guests enjoyed refreshments, light entertainment and the opportunity to meet the team who worked tirelessly to restore the home.
The relaunch event provided a meaningful moment to reflect on the unity shown during and after the incident. Families, residents and colleagues reunited with those who supported them, celebrating not only the reopening of the building but the strength of the Highcliffe community.
Stacey Lennon, Home Manager, said, “The event we experienced last year at Highcliffe was an incredibly challenging and unexpected experience for us all. However, the compassion and strength shown by our residents, their families, our dedicated team members, and the support from the community have truly lifted my heart. I am immensely proud and deeply grateful for the way we have come together, supporting one another and working as a community to move forward. It is during times like these that the true spirit of Highcliffe shines through.”
Jean Crossley, Resident at Highcliffe, commented, “On the night of the crash, it was a night of horror for everyone concerned. Everyone involved did amazing. It was great to celebrate the grand reopening, which was a lovely day to see how far we have come.”ience
The reopening marks the beginning of a new chapter for Highcliffe Care Home, one defined by resilience, renewed connection and a shared commitment to exceptional care. The home extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported residents and colleagues throughout the incident and the months that followed.
