Many of us may know Ian McKellan as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and Magneto in the X-Men franchise, but to resident Michael at Loxley Park, he is just Ian – his lifelong friend.
On 15th May 2026, global superstar Ian McKellen joined the team and residents at Loxley Park for lunch. Followed by lots of photographs, autographs and chats about his life in the spotlight.
Sir Ian Murray McKellen is a British actor acclaimed for his versatility on stage and screen, with roles spanning Shakespearean drama to blockbuster franchises. Knighted in 1991, he has won a Tony, six Olivier Awards, and a Golden Globe, earning Oscar nods for Gods and Monsters and The Fellowship of the Ring. Globally known as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and Magneto in X-Men, McKellen is also a prominent LGBTQ+ activist.
Naomi Roberts, Home Manager at Loxley Park Assisted Living, shared her thoughts on the visit, “Many of us were star-struck as he came to visit an old friend and have lunch in our fabulous restaurant. He spoke to the team and had pictures taken and even signed a few autographs. What a lovely time we had.”
