Droitwich Mews Resident Reconnects with a Former Hobby Thanks to the Home’s Wish Tree

Company News, Droitwich Mews

Droitwich Mews believes wishes should never be forgotten. Whether it’s returning to a much-loved career, revisiting a cherished place, or reconnecting with a passion from years gone by, they are dedicated to helping residents rediscover the things that bring them joy. They made one very special wish come true for Thecla.

For over a year, Thecla has attended art sessions led by talented volunteer, Derek. During each class, she embraces every creative challenge with enthusiasm, from drawing and collage work to painting. Her natural artistic ability has never gone unnoticed, and her fellow residents and team members are always amazed by the talent she brings to every piece she creates.

Yet whenever painting was mentioned, Thecla would often smile and say, “There’s nothing like painting with oils,” or “I really miss working with oils.” Displayed proudly in her room are several of her own oil paintings, each one a beautiful reflection of her remarkable talent and passion for art.

On Tuesday, 12th May, Thecla attended art class as usual, completely unaware of the surprise waiting for her. As she entered the room and saw the canvas, paints, and her own comfortable workspace prepared especially for her, her face lit up with pure joy.

Without hesitation, she sat down and began creating immediately. Mixing colours, planning her composition, and bringing her vision to life, she became completely immersed in the moment. Watching her paint was truly magical; calm, focused, and entirely in her element.

In just one hour, Thecla created a stunning piece of artwork. Throughout the session, she smiled from ear to ear and shared how relaxed and peaceful she felt while painting.  At one point she said, “You concentrate so much, yet you feel completely relaxed,” before adding, “Hasn’t the time flown? I got lost in my own world.”

The morning was incredibly special for everyone involved. Fellow residents watched in admiration as her artwork came together, and many were overwhelmed by the beauty of the finished piece. Most importantly, Thecla was deeply grateful to once again experience something she had missed for so long.

A huge thank you to Derek, who decided it was time to bring that passion back to life. Derek generously supplied oil paints, brushes, and a fresh canvas.

Droitwich Mews is passionate about helping wishes become reality, no matter how big or small. So, dream boldly, relive treasured memories, and let your imagination run free. A Wish Tree is located in the reception area, or a member of the Well-being team is always on hand to speak to.
