On 6th June, the team at Birchmere Mews Care Home took on one of the UK’s most iconic challenges, climbing Mount Snowdon to raise funds for the Stroke Association.
Rising 1,085 metres (3,560 feet) above sea level, Snowdon towers over the breathtaking landscape of Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. Setting off at 7am, the Birchmere Mews team completed the ascent in just four hours before making the two-hour journey back down, all while raising more than £1,000 for a cause that means so much to them.
Leading the challenge were Home Manager Michelle Larder, Deputy Manager Kayleigh Braid, Customer Service Manager Leanne Simms, Senior Carers Liss Roberts, Tracey Jarrett, Gemma Evans and Ishit Ahmed, Carer Teigan, and Well‑being Co-ordinator Joanna Cox. Throughout the day, the team supported and encouraged one another, demonstrating the same compassion, dedication and teamwork that they bring to Birchmere Mews every day.
Preparation for the climb had been a real team effort. From counting steps during shifts and enjoying walks with residents around the local golf course, to taking part in the home’s resident-led walking club and fitting in workouts during their spare time, everyone embraced the challenge together.
The event also provided an opportunity for colleagues to strengthen friendships and enjoy a short weekend away together, creating memories while supporting an important cause.
For many within the team, the fundraiser held a deeply personal significance, making the decision to support the Stroke Association particularly meaningful.
Their remarkable achievement is a testament to the strength of teamwork and the difference that can be made when people come together in support of a cause that matters.
