Staff Member at Local Care Home to Let Residents Cut Her Hair for Charity

Company News

Kelly O’Donnell, Admin at Merlin Court Care Home, will be cutting off her luscious locks in aid of The Little Princess Trust at a special charity event on 15th April 2025.

Her hair is currently two and a half foot long, down past her waist and she is looking to get it cut to just below her shoulders.

Kelly has decided to let some of the residents at the Avery Healthcare-owned care home take on the role of temporary hairdressers for the day to do the cutting themselves.

She said she’s “already committed to it, whether it’s a good idea or not!”

Her hair will then be donated to The Little Princess Trust to be used in the creation of a wig for a child in need.

Kelly, 31, has worked at Merlin Court Care Home for the past year and a half.

Originally from Thatcham but has lived in Marlborough for ten years, Kelly has become a well-known and valued member of the team, who’s always “combing through ideas” for ways to support the local community.

The Little Princess Trust is a UK-based charity that provides free real-hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other conditions.

In addition to providing wigs, the charity also funds vital research into childhood cancers, helping to support families at a challenging time.

Each year, approximately 3,755 young people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK, highlighting the importance of supporting such initiatives.*

Kelly has set a fundraising target of £700, the cost it takes for the charity to create one wig. She has currently £365.

“I’ve seen the amazing work The Little Princess Trust does, and I wanted to be part of something that could make a real difference,” said Kelly.

She continued, “I’m excited to get the residents involved in the cutting process, even though I’m not sure if I’m ready for it! I hope we can raise enough to help a child in need and “snip” away at the target.”

“Since Kelly has mentioned the big hair cut, I have been sharpening my scissors. What a lovely thing to do,” Said Caron Dixon, General Manager at Merlin Court Care Home.

Kelly’s fundraising efforts can be supported through her JustGiving page, where donations can be made directly. Click here to donate.

Kelly’s initiative at Merlin Court Care Home in Marlborough will unite residents in support of The Little Princess Trust, helping reduce wig-making costs and bring smiles to children’s faces when they receive their new wigs.
