Greensand House Care Home was proud to take part in this year’s Edenbridge Bonfire Parade, joining Edenbridge Care Home for an unforgettable evening of celebration. Team members Davide, Marina, Julie and Shannon accompanied residents David and Ann, travelling together by minibus to be part of the spectacular torch-lit procession.
This was the first parade for Greensand House, and the team was thrilled to be involved in such a historic and vibrant community tradition. Thousands of spectators lined the streets to cheer on the event, creating a lively atmosphere of excitement and festive spirit.
The Edenbridge Bonfire Society has organised this annual celebration for generations. Held on the nearest Saturday to 5 November, it commemorates the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and is recognised as the most significant event in the Edenbridge calendar.
The evening began with a torch-lit procession through the town, led by the Bishop of the Bonfire, his choirboys and the Bonfire Society’s traditional figures. These included Guy Fawkes, General Wolfe and Anne Boleyn, famously depicted carrying her head under her arm. They were joined by visiting Sussex bonfire societies, carnival floats, costumed walking groups and marching bands, all adding to the spectacle.
The celebrations continued at the local recreation ground, where food and drink stalls, live music and Kent’s oldest traditional fireworks display delighted the crowds. The night culminated in the dramatic burning of two enormous figures, Guy Fawkes and the annual Celebrity Guy, each standing 11 metres tall.
For Greensand House residents and team members, being part of this iconic event was a source of pride and joy. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community, experience a cherished tradition and create lasting memories together.
