Greenholme House has launched its first Memory Café, welcoming residents, families and members of the local community for a special opening event attended by the Lord Mayor of Ilkley.
The initiative has been created to provide a warm and welcoming space for people living with dementia, as well as their families and friends, to meet, share experiences and build meaningful connections within the community.
Guests at the launch event were given packets of forget-me-not seeds as a symbol of the café’s purpose of celebrating memories and supporting those affected by dementia.
The afternoon was filled with music and laughter thanks to a lively performance from local singer, Claire Brook, who had everyone smiling and singing along, including the Lord Mayor. The event was also attended by local police officer, Matt and Sam from Right at Home Ilkley, highlighting the strong community support behind the initiative.
Speaking at the event, the Lord Mayor of Ilkley said, “I have had an amazing time and wish everyone the very best for future events.”
Alison McPhail, Client Liaison Manager at Greenholme House, added, “The first Memory Café was such a wonderful event, and it was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves together. We’re really looking forward to welcoming even more people and creating something that makes a real difference for our local community.”
The Memory Café will now take place on the second Friday of every month at Greenholme House, offering a relaxed and friendly environment for people to socialise, enjoy activities and access support. For more information, please visit the Greenholme House website.
