Albion Court Care Home is delighted to welcome students from Sandwell College’s Health and Social Care department as they complete their Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications.
Through this partnership, Albion Court Care Home, located in Birmingham, is providing students with invaluable work placements that bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience.
These placements offer hands-on opportunities that enhance students’ learning and prepare them for rewarding careers in the healthcare sector.
Currently, 11 students are completing between 60 and 100 hours of practical work experience at the Avery Healthcare-owned care home, helping to develop a skilled and confident workforce ready to support local health and social care services.
This initiative comes at a crucial time, as recent reports show that we will need 25% more posts (440,000) by 2035 if the number of adult social care posts grows proportionally to the projected number of people aged 65 and over in the population (Care England, 2023).
Sandwell College’s comprehensive curriculum ensures students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in key areas such as communication in health and social care, nutrition, and human growth and development.
The partnership with Albion Court Care Home allows students to apply this learning in a professional setting, building their confidence and employability.
Beverley Aldridge, Home Manager at Albion Court Care Home, said: “We are delighted to support these students as they develop their skills and gain valuable experience in a care home setting. Their enthusiasm and dedication has been fantastic, and they are making a real difference to our residents.”
One student said, “Working at Albion Court Care Home has been an incredible experience. I’ve gained so much confidence and learned valuable skills that will help me in my future career.”
Another student added, “This placement at Avery Healthcare has given me real insight into what it takes to work in health and social care. The staff have been so supportive, and I feel more prepared for my future.”
Strong partnerships between Sandwell College and employers like Avery Healthcare ensure that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the sector.
Many of these students are working towards an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, a vital step in preparing them for advanced roles in the sector.
