A Fabulous Flamenco at Derby Heights Open Day

Avery Ambassador, Sherrie Hewson, was the special guest at Derby Heights Care Home’s Spanish Open Day on Friday 25th January.

Sherrie was welcomed to the home by Patricia Partington, Avery’s relative’s Ambassador, who presented her with a basket of flowers. We were also tipped off that Sherrie liked Malteasers and Earl Grey tea so we made sure that we had plenty of stock. She opened our event with a short talk, expressing how pleased she was to be an ambassador for Avery Healthcare, and commended the staff and management for all the great work they do on a daily basis for the residents.

Spanish themed decorations, flags, sombreros, banners and balloons were put up around the home, and Spanish music was played throughout the building. Our Head Chef prepared and cooked paella in the atrium, while hostesses served sangria with sugar frosted glasses and fresh fruit; an alcohol-free option was also available for those who preferred!

We then enjoyed entertainment from two Spanish flamenco dancers as well as Mr David Fox the magician who entertained the residents and staff throughout the afternoon. Finally, Sherrie assisted in the raffle draw to win a signed Derby County football, where proceeds were given to Mickleover Football Club.

Home Manager Lance Bosmans said about the day: “It was like an old friend coming over for lunch, Sherrie was so natural and genuine. The residents and families really enjoyed having Sherrie at Derby Heights and it was a huge success.”

Regional Manager, Rita Flanaghan also commented. “Derby Heights’ Spanish themed day was a real joy. Sherrie was the star guest, and she was an absolute delight, making everybody laugh, spending time talking to residents, families, and staff. Her genuine passion for care was really evident, she spoke movingly about her personal experiences, and was very complimentary about the great work that the staff do in our care homes.”
