Avery Healthcare Nominated for Prestigious Award

Avery Healthcare has been nominated for a Catey Award in the category of Training and Development.

The Catey Awards, established in 1984, are often described as the catering industry’s equivalent of the Oscars and honour individuals and teams who set new standards in hospitality.

This nomination highlights Avery Healthcare’s commitment to supporting and training team members with International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) awareness and practices.

Andrew Cullum, National IDDSI Craft Trainer for Avery Healthcare, has been leading this initiative.

Andy specialises in transforming ordinary care home meals into extraordinary culinary experiences reminiscent of luxury restaurant creations.

His efforts elevate Avery Healthcare’s dining experience and assist those with dysphagia, a condition affecting the ability to swallow certain foods or drinks.

IDDSI aims to establish uniform standards for texture-modified foods and thickened liquids in dysphagia care across all ages, care settings, and cultures.

Andy expressed his excitement about the nomination, stating, “The team is extremely excited and honoured to be recognised by the Cateys. This nomination showcases Avery Healthcare’s dedication to training and development.

“Winning this award would be an extraordinary honour for Avery and amplify the message about IDDSI and the critical work being done to support team members.”

Simon Lawrence, Director of Culinary and Hospitality for Avery Healthcare, elaborated on the significance of the award: “Winning a Catey would symbolise recognition for the hard work happening behind the scenes across the company. Chefs, care team members, and domestic staff all play crucial roles in this effort.

“More importantly, it would help spread awareness about IDDSI to a broader audience. It’s about promoting dining with dignity for residents and many others who could benefit from these standards.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the iconic Grosvenor House, in London, on the 2nd of July. It promises to be a glittering evening of celebration, recognising excellence and setting new standards in the hospitality industry.
