A small act of kindness can go a long way, especially when it helps bring a community together.
Alma Court Care Home in Cannock has made a generous donation to Heath Hayes Community Coffee Shop, part of Community Hobby & Gaming CIC, ensuring young visitors have access to games and activities.
The café opened in November 2024 in the heart of Heath Hayes main high street on Hednesford Road. It is open seven days a week.
Funds were raised by the Avery Healthcare-owned care home through book sales, raffles, a tombola, and seasonal events such as summer and Christmas fetes.
This has allowed the care home to purchase games such as Cluedo, Topol Tower, Amazeball, Snakes and Ladders, plus colouring books and reading materials for children visiting the café with their families.
Rachel Hammond, Home Manager at Alma Court Care Home, emphasised the importance of supporting local initiatives, saying, “Our community is at the heart of everything we do. This café provides a fantastic opportunity for our residents to enjoy new social experiences while also benefiting local families.”
Julie Banks, Lead Activity and Well-being at Alma Court Care Home, added, “The café extends our residents’ with outings, giving them a welcoming space to enjoy afternoon tea, games, and quizzes.”
Ivan, a resident at Alma Court, added “I cannot wait to go to the café again, it’s great.”
The donation was made possible through the care home’s partnership with Tesco’s Community Champion, Nicky Willis.
“We work hard to support local projects and are always looking for ways to help,” said Nicky.
Heath Hayes Community Coffee Shop owners Dan and Mel expressed their appreciation, stating, “This donation has allowed us to offer a wider range of games for children. We’re incredibly grateful to Alma Court Care Home, Avery Healthcare, and Tesco for their kindness.”
This initiative reflects Alma Court Care Home’s commitment to community engagement, creating inclusive spaces for both residents and local families.
