On 6th November, team members from Alder House joined compassionate individuals from across Nottingham for a night sleeping out under the stars at Meadow Lane Stadium to raise funds for charity.
The event, hosted by CEO Sleepout, brought together community leaders, businesses, and volunteers to raise awareness and vital funds to tackle homelessness. The event has so far raised £32,600, with donations continuing to come in following the night.
The evening began with guest speakers who shared the impact of their charities. This included reducing homelessness and providing jobs and opportunities that help people rebuild their lives. Kyle Robinson-Payne, Mayor of Gedling, along with Chief Executives from Emmanuel House also attended the event. Attendees were deeply moved by stories of voluntary work that gives purpose and hope to those facing difficulties.
Staff members reflected on the experience. Jas Sangha, Team Leader at Alder House, said, “It was a difficult experience, it made me feel grateful for the life I have, and this made me extra thoughtful for those experiencing homelessness.” Ella Mclauchlan, Client Liaison Manager, commented, “It really was an eye-opening experience; it makes you extra grateful for the little things in life and made me not focus so much on negatives.” Kelsey Thompson, Senior Carer, added, “Hearing the different stories from the homeless charities made the struggles of the night worthwhile, giving us a deeper understanding of the importance behind the cause.” Mel Skitt, Well-being Co-ordinator, shared, “I’m so glad we completed this event, it was really touching, and I would definitely like to do it again for a great cause.”
CEO Sleepout is a national initiative that unites business leaders and community members in raising funds and awareness for homelessness charities. By spending one night outdoors, participants reflect on the harsh realities faced by thousands across the UK who sleep rough every night, while helping to generate vital support for organisations working to change lives.
Donations remain open, and anyone wishing to support CEO Sleepout’s mission can visit their website to contribute.
