A Snapshot of a Day to Remember

Staff at Barnet Grange Care Home in Barnet came up with an excellent way to help two of their residents celebrate their Grandson’s wedding, by combining it with World Photography Day. Sadly, Dr James and Pearl Carne had to decline the invite to their grandson Ollie’s wedding to Sasha. Staff at the home collected an amazing array of wedding photographs from both staff and residents alike to make into a themed display, along with donated wedding memorabilia. On Saturday 19th August the wedding exhibition was displayed in the home, followed by a wedding reception for the happy couple at 3pm with prosecco and canapés. ‘Professional toast master’, James Higgs, toasted the bride and groom before they left for the official ceremony at The St Brides Foundation in London.

To make the day even more memorable, Len and Maria Roberts a couple living at Barnet Grange who had celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary the previous day, attended the festivities to join in the toast and share old photographs from their wedding album.

The afternoon ended with classical wedding music playing in the background, whilst residents, family and friends chatted looking at the wonderful photography display. Resident Kenneth Shaw commented, “I recently attended a national Photography Day at Barnet Grange. I thought it would probably be a collation of old cameras and people who I didn’t know and had never met before. How wrong was I? This was a memory of the days of health and hope, of self-belief and innocence. The foundation of this event has been set for a new generation.”
