Community and Care at Clare Court Care Home

Clare Court is an award-winning Care Home in Birmingham that offers residential, dementia and nursing care in a diverse resident community. With Birmingham being so rich in culture, our home is proud to welcome residents of a whole range of cultures through the doors. Our home happily accommodates couples and companions who wish to remain together as they continue their care journey and make new memories side by side.

Just half a mile from Birmingham City Hospital, Clare Court offers exceptional care and support delivered by expertly trained staff, who pride themselves on celebrating the lives of each resident, ensuring their continued well-being and happiness. Residents come from a whole range of areas, such as Sandwell, Handsworth, Ladywood, Bearwood and Smethwick. We understand that where you come from really matters, especially as moving into a residential home can be an emotionally challenging time. For this reason, we try and visit the places the residents come from as often as possible in order to give them a taste of home, whether that is simply popping to the shops or enjoying a delicious meal out.

The staff at our nursing home in Birmingham come from a range of backgrounds and cultures, meaning our teams speak a plethora of languages including Urdu, Punjabi, Mirpuri, French, Polish and Russian. We celebrate the contributions of each and every community from which we draw, and our care teams also reflect this rich Asian, Caribbean and European cultural heritage. Our outreach into these communities is a strong feature of life at our Birmingham care home, for example our Sikh residents enjoy visits from the local Guru Nanak temple in Smethwick.

Our large, comfortable lounge and dining areas are perfect for socialising and joining in with activities, but if you prefer to relax in a more peaceful space, we also have designated quiet areas. All bedrooms at Clare Court Care Home come fully furnished with walk-in showers. Residents are encouraged to decorate their space with personal items, keepsakes, and mementos to ensure they settle into the home environment as easily as possible.

We understand that moving into any residential care home can be a stressful time for all concerned, so we do our utmost to make the transition as smooth as possible. Families are encouraged to visit as often as they like, and whenever they like. We also make regular visits to local places or groups so that our residents feel connected and embedded within the communities. The shared art, culinary and language activities that take place ensure the settling in process is easy, and making friends with other residents is guaranteed.

We regularly update our dedicated Facebook page with any activities and goings on in the home. Alternatively, you are welcome to call our friendly team who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. As one of the lead care providers in Birmingham, Avery is proud to offer multiple residential care homes in Birmingham. Clare Court is in close proximity to another Avery run Birmingham care home – Albion Court.

It’s true that a smile makes all the difference, and there’s no shortage of smiling at Clare Court. At our Birmingham nursing home, our well-being co-ordinators deliver all manner of activities, helping each and every resident achieve an active and balanced lifestyle. From baking to bingo, arts and crafts to enjoying the company of dogs, we have something for every resident to enjoy, whatever their interests or abilities. Reminiscence is also a big part of everyday life at our home, either with one-to-one sessions or within a group setting. Our nominated ‘Resident of the Day’ programme, and regular Skype sessions keeps people in touch with the world around them.

Our enclosed garden is lovingly maintained by our resident gardening club, where in the summer months you will often find staff and residents enjoying a refreshing drink while enjoying the weather.

We feel that being part of our local Birmingham community is an important factor for our residents. We believe it anchors us to the wider community, which in effect can lead to our residents having a fulfilled and well-rounded quality of life. You’ll often find us visiting local venues such as nearby community clubs, the park and sometimes even a local pub for lunch. Residents and staff alike love the buzz of Dudley Road, with its rich variety of independent shops and wide selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes.

Clare Court Care Home often welcomes visiting speakers from local interest groups, who come and deliver talks on a range of subjects and entertain our residents. As part of the ‘Avery ReConnect Programme’, we are developing the use of poetry sessions, utilising audio books and local artists to deliver poetry in a variety of dialects from Welsh, ‘Brummie’ to Patois. Local poets such as Ita Gooden, from the Caribbean community, have been recent visitors to the home to support our work – check out our Facebook page for updates on these exciting events.

Other visitors to our nursing home in Birmingham, range from entertainers, local hobby groups, school children and even pets (through our partnership with the Pets as Therapy scheme).
