Waterhouse Manor and Peterborough and District Bowls Club Collaborate for a Community Challenge

Since opening its doors, Waterhouse Manor Care Home has proudly developed a valued relationship with Peterborough and District Bowls Club. What began as enjoyable visits with residents and team members of Waterhouse Manor playing and watching bowls, sharing conversations and building friendships naturally grew into a collaborative partnership.

Wanting to strengthen this relationship further, the home worked with the club to create the Waterhouse Manor Challenge, hosted at the club on 21st February, with hopes to make this an annual event. Club members took part in 10 friendly yet competitive bowls games, with three players per team competing for the bespoke Waterhouse Manor Challenge Trophy. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with plenty of encouragement and good humour throughout.

Alongside the competition, the home hosted a raffle in aid of Alzheimer’s Society, raising funds for a cause close to the home’s hearts and raised £200. A bespoke Avery hamper was created and presented to the 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place team members.

During the break, everyone came together to enjoy tea, coffee and cake before the winners were officially announced. Residents thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon socialising with members, watching the matches unfold and being part of such a positive community event. It was a wonderful example of partnership, participation and shared purpose.

Mike Lewin, Committee Chairman at Peterborough and District Bowls Club, shared his thoughts on the event, saying, “We are so pleased to have forged a link with Waterhouse Manor. Our recent ‘bowls challenge’ was a great success in which club players competed for the handsome trophy provided by the kind folks at Waterhouse Manor. A great afternoon spent playing bowls, eating cake and raising £200 for the Alzheimer’s society from a well-supported raffle.”

Milly Bunning, Client Liaison Manager at Waterhouse Manor, said, “We were absolute delighted to host the Waterhouse Manor Bowls Challenge at our local bowls club with residents involved. The club have great facilities and events that the community can get involved in which is inclusive for all abilities. Our residents had a fantastic time meeting new people and familiar friends, and even won a few of the raffle prizes! By bringing the community together, we raised £200 for Alzheimer’s Society. We look forward to continuing working with the amazing Peterborough & District Bowls Centre.”
