Avonmere Care Home is situated in Downend, South Gloucestershire, close to the Willy Wicket Inn on the northern outskirts of the city of Bristol, and within easy reach of the M32, M4 and the M5. The purpose-built building consists of three floors, one of which is dedicated to dementia care, and is surrounded by a large, carefully landscaped garden full of acers, silver birches and beautiful hydrangeas.
Couples and companions are warmly welcomed in our home, where we prioritise their well-being, comfort and happiness together.
Staff at our care home in Bristol are very much geared towards addressing the needs of each individual resident, ensuring both the physical and emotional well-being necessary to gain fulfilment and a contented outlook. A sudden change of circumstance in later years such as moving out of a family home can be a stressful and emotional time, and every effort will be made to make the transition as painless as it can be and to offer peace of mind to all concerned. We manage our own Facebook page and update it regularly so that friends and family can see what the team are getting up to with residents and connect with loved ones.
If you are looking for dementia care homes in Bristol, then Avonmere could be the home you have been searching for. The expert team of staff are trained to look after all types of residents with a range of care requirements. The careful choice of staff and thorough training they require ensure that our residents who are living with dementia receive the very best care.
Residents could opt to spend their time sitting around, but they’d be hard-pressed to do that for all the temptations that will be on offer. Activities are resident-led, broad in their appeal and include activities such as Tai Chi, Pilates, visits from local schools or nurseries, scout groups and other community groups, as well as arts, crafts, singing and gardening.
The garden is not only full of colourful shrubs and trees, gazebos and shady seats, but also raised beds, a greenhouse and a potting shed for the residents to use. Plenty of scope for exercising those green fingers, and maybe homegrown strawberries and tomatoes for tea in summer!
The minibus will be at the gate ready and waiting to take off for the sites of Bristol and South Gloucestershire or perhaps, on a sunny day, the Weston-super-Mare beach hut. The beach hut is shared with one of our sister care homes in Somerset, and gives the perfect opportunity to escape to the beach.
They say ‘you are what you eat’ and at Avonmere, we do our best to make mealtimes as nutritious and appetising as possible. Everything is freshly cooked in our kitchens and is as fresh and flavoursome as we can make it. Each meal will have two to three options to choose from, and we can cater for any special dietary requirements. Tea and coffee are readily available, as well as healthy snacks and a delicious array of freshly baked cakes and biscuits which are very popular with our guests in the cafe. If you’re watching a film in our cinema, residents are able to get drinks and popcorn from the bar.
At Avonmere, we believe that mealtimes should be pleasurable occasions, so we take great care over our presentation, and always offer a glass of wine or sherry with the main meal of the day, and make an extra effort for birthdays and anniversaries. If you fancy a private party with friends and family, we have a private dining room for you to use. Why not come along and sample some of our delicious cuisine, it’s mostly locally sourced and made with love!
