One of Salisbury’s most prestigious care homes, The Cedars, at Landford, has just completed the first half of its extension and refurbishment programme with an additional 40 rooms soon to be available. The Cedars has acquired a reputation for the very highest standards of care with the emphasis on quality of life in a safe, manageable and comfortable environment. The original house is an elegant period property, which dates back to the 1830s. For the past few months the home has been extended and renovated to restore it to its country house grandeur. The Cedars is set in four acres of gardens and woodland. Its early history has links to Lord Nelson and later an officer who died in the Charge of the Light Brigade. In the 1920s, the house it was bought by the family of the world famous conductor Sir Adrian Boult, who grew up there. The gardens once had an amphitheatre but that was transformed into a Union Jack shaped sunken garden after World War One. Today that part of the garden is filled with azaleas and Japanese maples particularly beautiful in the Autumn. Elsewhere there are cedars and magnificent Chilean pines. The Cedars became a nursing home in 1976 but today it still preserves the relaxed feel and warmth of a private house. The home offers comfortable accommodation and 24 hour nursing care in single en suite rooms, each different in their character and with views across the gardens. Guests are always welcome and may be entertained by residents either in their own rooms or in the public rooms. The Cedars has large, comfortable and elegant sitting and dining rooms and prides itself on delicious home cooking with special diets and preferences cared for as required. Nursing care combines the highest degree of professionalism with friendliness, courtesy and sensitivity.
