Hanford Court Care Home in Hanford, Stoke is part of the Avery Healthcare group, offering residential, respite and dementia care and is due to open in March 2012. The home is looking to recruit a Deputy Care Home Manager.

The Deputy Home Manager will provide a supporting role to the Home Manager, and a clinical and quality lead to the care team. The successful candidate will be passionate about caring for people and be able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical knowledge and confident leadership skills, to ensure delivery of the best possible care.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Deputy Manager who will work with and support our experienced Home Manager and assist in maintaining the high clinical standards with a hands on approach.

Job Description
Responsible for monitoring standards of care delivered by qualified and unqualified care staff by observation and direct involvement, ensuring that all residents receive quality medical and personal care and that care plans are fully maintained.
Act at all times in line with NMC Code of Professional Conduct (if relevant).
To support the Manager in the implementation of all policies, procedures and business objectives. To become knowledgeable and competent in managing the Home.
Prepare the staff duty rota to ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times.
Appraise staff.
Instruction of all staff in safe systems of work, fire safety and evacuation procedures, and induction of new staff.
Responsible for monitoring the state of wellbeing of each resident, being aware of any change impacting on care and care plans, ensuring that new needs are met and written records are amended to reflect any variation.
Act as a focal point for contact with residents, their relatives and visitors, as well as health and social care professionals involved in their wellbeing, ensuring that any reasonable requests are acted upon and concerns or complaints are promptly investigated and dealt with appropriately.
Liase with the Home Manager across the range of operational activity to be able to assume responsibility for managing the Home during the manager’s scheduled and unscheduled absences.
Liase with the Home Manager on the marketing of the Home to existing and potential residents and relatives, health and social care professionals, developing links with other care providers to work together for the mutual benefit of those agencies and the Home.
Practice safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in particular moving and handling of residents, by assessing risks and having due regard for personal safety and the safety of residents, visitors and staff.
Understand personal responsibilities in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act. Demonstrates a working knowledge of COSHH assessments.
Act courteously toward residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each resident and ensure effective communication is maintained.
Contribute fully to team working, responding positively to colleagues and actioning all reasonable work instructions promptly.
Advise on the supply and quality of items used to carry out tasks, ensuring the timely and appropriate ordering of replacement goods.
Attend all relevant staff meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Nurse (nursing home) with current NMC registration - Essential
NVQ 3 or equivalent in care for care homes - Essential
Willing to study for Registered Managers Award - Desireable
2 years’ experience working with the client group - Essential
Evidence of up to date training / PREPP for nurses - Essential
Knowledge of the National Minimum Standards & CSA 2000 - Desireable
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Computer skills are an advantage - Essential
Demonstrate the ability to lead staff and act responsibly in the absence of the manager - Essential
Effective interpersonal skills - Essential
Have a positive attitude to developing staff and enhancing care of the residents - Desireable
Able to be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities - Essential
You should be:
A Registered Nurse or
With at least three years post qualification experience
Have excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
With experience of the independent sector and associated legislation
